Pseudofolliculitis Barbae

Folliculitis barbae is an itchy and sometimes tender

papulopustular

eruption of hair follicles in skin areas prone to shaving, such as the beard-line in men. It also occurs in women who shave their legs and bikini area.
In most patients, PFB can be successfully managed by altering grooming habits.
Symptoms

Red lesions filled with pus

  • Painful

  • At neck

  • At beard

  • At lower extremity, At genitalia, At upper extremity

Itchy skin

  • At the bump site

Skin rash and redness

  • At the bump site

or Dark patches of skin

  • At the bump site

Hair removal by shaving

Having curly hair

Treatment
1-Cessation of shaving. 2-Warm compresses and retraction and release of ingrown hair tips. 3-Topical or oral drugs as needed for inflammation and secondary infection. 4-Sometimes hair follicle removal. 5-Sometimes prednisone: a glucocorticoid medication mostly used to suppress the immune system and decrease inflammation in certain conditions.
