Onychomycosis

Onychomycosis is also known as tinea unguium, a fungal infection of the nails. Both toenails and fingernails may be affected, but it is more common at toenails. That causes discoloration, thickening, and separation from the nail bed.
If left untreated, the fungal infection will spread and can eventually destroy the nail.

Treatment
Onychomycosis is typically treated with antifungal medication and takes a couple of months to get back to normal. Some fungal nail infections don't respond to medicines. Your doctor might suggest surgery.
