Idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome

Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is a rare

primary glomerular group of diseases

characterized by the triad of edema, massive, or nephrotic-range, proteinuria and hypoalbuminemia, for which there is no known cause.
Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is the most common form of NS in children.
Symptoms

Enlarged feet or ankle

  • In both feet or ankles

or Swelling or lump in eyelid

  • Upper eyelid, Lower eyelid

  • Painless

  • Both sides, Both eyes

or Swelling in lower leg

  • In both lower legs

or Enlarged arms or hands

or Face swelling

High levels of fats in blood

Fatigue

common

Urine with bubbles unrelated to speed of urination or bladder fullness

Poor appetite

Overweight or obese

Falling sick easily

Fever

  • Greater than or equal to 38°C (100.4°F), Less than 38°C (100.4°F)

High blood pressure

Swollen belly

Risk factors

Recent upper respiratory tract infection

or Recent allergic reaction

Viral infection causing liver inflammation and damage

or Hodgkin lymphoma

or Use of Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug

or Use of penicillin

or Use of interferon

or Rifampin antibiotic

Treatment
Symptomatic treatment includes: 1-dietary regimen with normal protein intake and salt restriction 2-calcium and vitamin D are prescribed with steroids 3-diuretics should be used in case of severe edema 4-infusion of albumin in case of severe hypovolemia 5-treatment of hypertension 6-anticoagulant therapy
