Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is defined by a cluster of interconnected factors that directly increase the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), other forms of cardiovascular atherosclerotic diseases (CVD), and diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2). MetS is a complex disorder with high socioeconomic cost that is considered a worldwide epidemic.
The exact cause of the metabolic syndrome is not known. Many features of the metabolic syndrome are associated with

Treatment
The goal of metabolic syndrome treatment is to reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes by controlling the associated problematic health conditions (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, insulin resistance). If aggressive lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise aren't enough, your doctor might suggest medications to help control your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
