Colonic polyps, or colorectal polyps, are small clumps of cells, or fleshy growths present on the surface of the

colon

or of the

rectum

. Most colon polyps are harmless, but if left untreated, colonic polyps can lead to colorectal cancer.
Screening is needed to help prevent a polyp from turning into colorectal cancer.
