Adenoid Hypertrophy

Adenoid Hypertrophy is a condition when the

Adenoids

swell up or become enlarged due to infections or allergies. Adenoids help fight infections for infants and young children but become less important as children grow and develop other ways to fight germs. They usually begin to shrink after about 5 years of age and often practically disappear by teen years.
Practice good nasal hygiene, including regular saline nasal irrigation, to reduce congestion and promote optimal nasal health.

Treatment
The swelling normally gets better on its own, but if it is severe or happens frequently, a healthcare provider may prescribe medication or recommend the adenoids be removed. Medications are used to treat the underlying condition: Antihistamine and/or nasal Corticosteroids if the enlargement is caused by allergy. Antibiotics if the enlargement is caused by bacterial infection.
