Does the type of sport matter?

If I wanna lose weight, is it all about counting calories or is one physical activity type better than the other?

Some sports like weight lifting/resistance training will help burn cals with a focus on growing muscles. Other sports like swimming also help burn cals but focus more on improving cardiovascular health. Swimming is also a bit like resistance training cuz of the water resistance
