Ankle Fracture

Ankle fracture or broken ankle is one of the most common causes of ankle pain. An ankle fracture happens when you break one or more bones in your ankle joint.

If you are unable to see your doctor and have any of the signs or symptoms of an ankle fracture, you should go to an emergency department as soon as possible.

    • Rapidly developing

    • In one ankle

    • Severe


    Joint is sore to touch

    • Ankle is sore to touch


    Sudden inability to stand on toes


    Ankle joint swelling


    Popping sound at joints

    • At ankle


    Blue/purple skin on ankle


    Numbness or tingling in legs, feet, or buttocks

  • Recent injury or trauma to ankle or foot

    or Car accident

    Twisted ankle


    or Overweight or obese

    Diabetes mellitus

    or Peripheral artery disease

    or Use of steroids

  • Treatment
  • 1-Rest: Rest is key. 2-Ice: Ice the area for 20 minutes at a time to help with swelling and inflammation. 3-Compression: Wrapping the injury helps control swelling. 4-Elevation: Keep your foot and ankle raised slightly above the level of your heart to help reduce inflammation.
