Anemia

Anemia is a condition in which there is a decrease in the number of healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood.

There are many forms of anemia, each with its own cause.

  • Anemia treatment can be started after the underlying cause has been established. The treatment for one type of anemia may be both inappropriate and dangerous for another type of anemia. Examples of possible anemia causes and treatment: 1-Iron deficiency anemia is treated with iron supplements or with blood transfusion, in severe cases. 2-Vitamin deficiency anemia such as Pernicious anemia is treated with Vitamin B-12 injections and folic acid deficiency anemia is treated with folic acid supplements. 3-Aplastic anemia treatment may include blood transfusions to boost red blood cell count or a bone marrow transplant. 4-Sickle cell anemia treatment includes blood transfusions, folic acid supplements, antibiotics, bone marrow transplant.
