Amebiasis

Amebiasis is a disease caused by a parasite called Entamoeba histolytica. Only about 10% to 20% of people who are infected with E. Histolytica become sick from the infection.

Please keep practicing good hygiene habits to prevent getting infected with the parasite.

    • In the bottom right region, Started around the navel then shifted to lower right

    • Greater than or equal to 38°C (100.4°F), Less than 38°C (100. 4°F)

    Abdominal bloating

    Sore abdomen

    • Lower left quadrant of abdomen

    Bleeding from anus

  • Risk factors
  • Area of poor sanitation or recent contaminated water or food

  • Treatment
  • Several antibiotics are available to treat amebiasis. Treatment must be prescribed by a physician. You will be treated with only one antibiotic if your E. Histolytica infection has not made you sick. You probably will be treated with two antibiotics (first one and then the other) if your infection has made you sick.
