Avey Wins First Place at the KPMG Private Enterprise Tech Innovator Competition 2022

On October 3rd, 2022, the second edition of the KPMG Private Enterprise Tech Innovator Competition (“KTIC”) Qatar was held in the luxurious Le Royal Méridien hotel with Avey, a technology company led by Dr. Mohammad Hammoud (Founder & CEO), prevailing as the winner.

The KTIC honored Qatar's cutting-edge tech businesses for their contributions to technological breakthroughs, business transformations, and the disruption of entire industries.

Avey is a HealthTech and InsureTech company that leverages the latest and premier AI technology to offer a holistic and tailored health journey to patients. Avey takes care of patients from the moment they feel unwell until they feel better.

“Avey was born the day my son got sick with a chronic illness. My wife, my son, and I went through a difficult health journey which made my son hope for a superhero that could cure him. Through my son I heard the voices of all the people struggling with their health issues. Since that day, it has been my mission to use my expertise in computer science to fulfill my son’s wish, for him and all the people like him.” – Dr. Mohammad Hammoud

Recently, Avey’s AI diagnostic solution that allows people to self-diagnose their health symptoms was successfully validated as the most accurate in the world. People all over the world can use the Avey app (available on both the App Store and Google Play) to check their symptoms through an interactive and friendly assessment session backed by AI to discover and learn about their possible cases with confidence.

After last year’s success that saw SkipCash emerging as the winner, this year’s competition saw a 150% increase in applicants indicating both an upward trajectory in innovative start-ups, tech solutions, and an encouraging evolution in the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Qatar.

At the end of the qualification process, five start-ups, namely Avey, At-Home-Doc, C-Wallet, Skora, and Sponix, where selected by KPMG as finalists for the opportunity to be the KTIC Qatar 2022 winner. As KPMG is one of the big four multinational professional services network, this would be a priceless stamp-of-approval for the five start-ups and a vindication of their solutions, promise, and hard work. Furthermore, the winning start-up would qualify to take part in the global KPMG Tech Innovator Competition and compete alongside the most promising up-and-coming technology companies in the world.

The competition opened with a panel discussion titled “How is Qatar supporting the growth of the local tech innovation sector?”. The panel consisted of Dr. Boumediene Ramdani (Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Head of Research and Policy at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Organizational Excellence of Qatar University), Clay Susini (Assistant Director of Digital Enablement at Ooredoo Qatar), Humza Abid Khan (Chief Growth Officer of Snoonu), Omar Shaath (TASMU Platform Manager at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology), and Sara Daniel (CEO of Doha Tech Angels).

As major ecosystem players coming from prestigious and leading organizations, each panelist offered a comprehensive and invaluable view of the current state and future perspectives of Technology Innovation in Qatar.

After the panel discussion, the five finalists delivered top-notch quality pitches on how they believe their solutions can impact the world while presenting their innovative and growth ambitions to a panel of judges and industry experts.

The panel, consisting of Duha Al-Buhendi (Digital Incubation Center), Jamal Bdeir (Microsoft), Mohammed Al Emadi (Qatar Development Bank), Hayfa Al-Abdullah (Qatar Science and Technology Park), Barbara Henzen (KPMG), Nizar Hneini (KPMG), and Omar Mahmood (KPMG), made an informed yet challenging decision and selected Avey as the winner.

At the crossroads of three booming and lucrative industries, namely AI, Health and Insurance, this win recognizes Avey as the start-up to look for in Qatar and the region.

“I am honored by the judges’ decision and recognition of Avey. My team and I have been working tirelessly for the past 3 and a half years to perfect the Avey algorithm. We feel privileged to represent Qatar in Lisbon and we are confident that our novel solution will make waves at the Global Tech Innovator Finale.” – Dr. Mohammad Hammoud
