Chronic fatigue, whether caused by hypothyroidism or another condition, is so much more than a poor night’s sleep, being "lazy," or having low motivation.
Thyroid warriors often tell me that their friends and family simply don’t understand what it’s like to live with the crippling fatigue that accompanies low thyroid function.
And they likely never will – it’s something you have to experience to fully understand.
I feel, as a HashisWarrior myself, we internalize this symptom and mistakenly attach it to our identity or intentions.
A loving reminder to my fellow warriors – the heavy, crushing exhaustion you feel on a daily basis is in no way a reflection of your personality, desire or interest, character, work ethic, ability, or role in life (as a parent, friend, spouse, employee, etc.).
It is truly a dysfunction at the cellular level due to improper hormone levels. A physiological imbalance that impairs regular function – mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Remember how strong you really are, to live with this fatigue yet still continue smiling and getting through the day with your spirit intact, you are amazing.
To those who do not struggle with chronic fatigue – be grateful this is one less thing you have to endure and please show more compassion to those in your life that do.
The best thing you can do is be kind and believe what they are saying is true. Don’t dismiss or downplay their very real feelings and symptoms.
