If you are struggling with an eating disorder
If you are struggling with an eating disorder, your Inner Critic has probably gotten very strong - too strong! It is probably finding a million ways to invalidate your experience. So together, let’s give wise answers to that cruel voice in your head: ‘‘You have to be visibly underweight, otherwise you don’t have an ED’’ - Not true! Most of individuals who struggle with an ED are in the normal weight range and some in the overweight range. A person’s weight cannot determine the validity of their eating disorder. ’‘See? You can eat around others and eat healthy/unhealthy foods, you are fine!’’ - You cannot tell whether someone has an eating disorder or not just by looking at their food intake. You never know what is going through their mind while eating. And in eating disorders, your perceptions around food and your weight says it all! ‘‘You’ve never been hospitalized so it is not that bad!’’ - Sadly most of the people who have an eating disorder never get the chance to get proper treatment , let alone be hospitalized. Just because you haven’t been hospitalized (or close to being hospitalized), it doesn’t mean your struggles are not valid. You still deserve to get help! ‘‘You still have your period. It means there is nothing wrong!’’ - Some bodies are more sensitive to changes in their diet and exercise routine, therefore may stop ovulating more easily compared to others; while others may resist longer. This is entirely dependent on your body. You can have your period and still struggle with an eating disorder.

Cue the problem
Ask a kid to eat a meal? Cue the problems. 😠⠀⠀ Ask a kid to eat a snack? Just try and stop the excitement. 😀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ There's a reason for this. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Snacks are usually foods that come out of crinkly packages. They're palatable. Easy to chew. Bland flavours. Fun shapes. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Meals are whole foods of varied textures. Often new foods. Strong flavours. Less sweet. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ You get it. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I have a million reasons why I think snacks and meals really should be more hard to distinguish from one another. But today, I'm focusing in on ONE. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ And that is that, if you want to avoid your toddler forgoing meals and only wanting to eat snacks...this is one of the biggest reasons. ⠀ So level the playing field. Make them one and the same. ✨⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ *Note: This doesn't mean you can NEVER use easy snacks that come out of a package. But aim to reduce it significantly (my kids saw those as treats so would get it only a few times a week), OR at least start mixing up when you serve them, so that they are present at snacks AND meals, and real food is present at meals AND snacks.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀

Is this fine?
Is it okay to hide food in other foods in order to get my child to a wider variety of foods?
