How many times do you eat breakfast because you’re really hungry vs. eating out of habit because that’s what you do every morning. You may have heard that you should never skip breakfast or that you should eat frequently. Also, how often do you load up on carbs in the morning? Cereal, pastries, bread, oatmeal, juice, etc.
There are two huge mistakes here:
1. Eating if not hungry
2. Eating mostly carbs for your first meal
First rule of thumb is that you should not eat (good or bad food) if you’re not hungry. This should be common sense. Your body is telling you that it does not need food or energy. So you should wait until you truly feel hungry.
Second rule of thumb is that after an overnight fast (because you were sleeping), your insulin is at its lowest in the morning, and most of you are starting to use your own fat for energy. Take advantage of it and don’t eat carbs for your first meal. Load up instead on protein and good fats.
When you do this, your insulin remains relatively low and you continue to use fat for energy. Also you’ll be full and satiated for longer.
Starting your day with a high amount of refined carbohydrates, sends you on a sugar and insulin rollercoaster that leads to feeling tired, crashing, craving and hungry often.
Start your day right by eating only when you’re hungry no matter the hour, and when you break your fast eat protein + fat and avoid carbs.
When you do this regularly, your healthy and energy will improve. If you apply this to every meal, that you’ll be in the best health of your life.
This approach applies to dinner too. If not hungry, don’t eat and just go to bed
